Le Couloir is pleased to offer its expertise in the field of avalanche safety to snowmobilers.
Our training is tailored to the specific needs of this clientele and has been designed according to the highest standards of the Canadian industry. All our instructors are members of the Canadian Avalanche Association and have several hours of experience spent in avalanche terrain.
The course plan is designed so that we go to the mountains to practice the theory we have learned every day. No full day in class!
The Introduction to Avalanche Safety (CSA 1) course will provide a framework for decision-making in beginner-level avalanche terrain that is based on the most current knowledge available. It was developed to meet the needs of people with minimal training and little experience. Additionally, this course introduces the prerequisites for future avalanche training and presents the Advanced Avalanche Safety Course (CSA 2) as the logical next step to obtain intermediate-level decision-making skills.
At the end of the course, the student should
to be able to:
-
Describe the formation of avalanches and the triggering factors;
-
Recognize avalanche terrain;
-
Plan and carry out a mountain outing using available resources;
-
Describe and practice safety techniques in avalanche terrain;
-
Perform an autonomous rescue;
-
Understand the limits of training.
There is a total of 6 hours of compulsory theoretical training indoors and the rest of the training then continues outdoors. Each participant must have their own avalanche safety equipment and other equipment necessary for traveling in the mountains.
*A minimum of 6 people is required to start the course.
