Avalanche Safety Course 2 (CSA2)

4 days
$559.99

The Advanced Avalanche Safety Course (CSA 2) provides a framework for decision-making in intermediate-level avalanche terrain that is based on the most advanced knowledge available.  It was developed to meet the needs of people with a moderate degree of training and experience.  Additionally, this course introduces the prerequisites for future avalanche training and presents the Canadian Avalanche Association's professional training program as the accepted industry standard for continuing at an advanced level.

At the end of the course, the student should
to be able to:

  • Use the Avaluator™ as a decision-making tool to determine when additional planning and safe travel techniques are required;

  • Be familiar with avalanche danger rating verification techniques ranging from personal use to a local scale;

  • Be familiar with the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale technical model as a personal means of developing local terrain ratings;

  • Use a choice of route to take advantage of the nuances of the terrain and manage personal risks;

  • Use travel techniques in avalanche terrain appropriate to avalanche conditions;

  • Know how to carry out an independent rescue with great competence;

  • Understand the limits of your training.

*The CSA1 is a prerequisite in order to follow the CSA2. Participants will receive 8 hours of theoretical training and will spend the remainder of the training in the field.
